Tom Hanks as Dave Matthews? Boyd Tinsley Wants to See It

It's only a matter of time before Hollywood execs cash in on the hugely passionate Dave Matthews Band fan base and greenlight a movie about the feel-good rock group.

Now that Boyd Tinsley is entering the movie business as producer of the indie "Faces in the Mirror," premiering Aug. 30 on SnagFilms.com, and the DMB violinist has a few suggestions for who should play each member of the band.

"A young Tom Hanks would be a great Dave Matthews. That's the one that I could say definitively," Tinsley told us in an exclusive interview. "I hope Dave is flattered by that, and I hope Tom Hanks is too. I think they will be."

We think that casting choice is spot-on since the pair share a pretty close resemblance. However, with Matthews having his own acting career — he's appeared in "Just Go With It," "You Don't Mess With the Zohan" and "Because of Winn-Dixie" — the singer might just want to star as himself.

Tinsley named revered drummer Dennis Chambers to play DMB's drummer Carter Beauford, but couldn't come up with an actor to portray bassist Stefan Lessard, saying he "has not aged in 20 years" and "was like a teenager when he joined the band, and he still looks like one." We think someone like the seemingly ageless Mark Wahlberg could be a good fit.

As for himself, Tinsley had a more over-the-top actor in mind.

"Me, it'd have to be somebody kind of like wild and just sort of out there. What's his name from 'Parks and Recreation' that used to be on 'Saturday Night Live'? The black actor, what's his name, he was on 'Saturday Night Live.' Oh God, I can't remember his name. He'd play me."

The only "SNL" alum on "Parks and Recreation" is Amy Poehler, so we're guessing Tinsley is referring to Tracy Morgan, the star of another NBC comedy, "30 Rock," who appeared as a cast member on the late night sketch show from 1996 to 2003. Morgan may be able to capture Tinsley's exuberant stage presence, but we're not sure we'd be able to take him seriously as a violinist.

What do you think of Tinsley's casting suggestions?
