What do you do when sci-fi seems to be working for your career? You stick with sci-fi, baby.

Hot off a respectable international opening for "Oblivion," Tom Cruise has signed on to battle another alien menace in "Yukikaze," according to Deadline.

"Yukikaze" takes place in the mid-21st century, three decades after an alien force invaded the Earth through a dimensional porthole that appeared over Antarctica. While humans beat back the attack, they form a special combat force to eradicate the alien threat on its home planet.

The film is based on a series of novels by Chohel Kamayashi, who has been referred to as Japan's answer to renowned sci-fi author Isaac Asimov ("I, Robot").

Cruise's "Oblivion," in which he plays a drone repairman traversing a war-torn Earth long since abandoned after decades of war with an alien race, scored over $61 million at the box office this past weekend upon opening in several international markets. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski ("TRON: Legacy"), will open domestically on April 19.

Cruise is currently in post production on another sci-fi film, "All You Need is Kill," directed by Doug Liman ("The Bourne Identity"). He's also working with Christopher McQuarrie on new installments of the "Mission: Impossible" and "Jack Reacher" franchises and is the latest star attached to the long in-development screen adaptation of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."
