Tom Cruise is really feeling the music lately -- and might just keep on rockin'.
The "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" star is the latest actor to be courted for the lead role in the seemingly impossible-to-cast remake of "A Star is Born," according to Deadline.
Cruise is getting good early buzz for his turn as an aging Axl Rose-ish rock star in this summer's film adaptation of the Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages," and apparently he's in talks with director Clint Eastwood to play a different kind of over-the-hill musician (one with not as much hair, anyway).
Cruise would be joining Beyonce in "A Star is Born," which follows a former matinee idol who helps launch the career of an ingenue. He falls in love with his protege as her career skyrockets even as his professional and personal life starts to hit rock bottom.
We'd love to see Tom in this part (it almost guarantees him an Oscar nomination), but we'll have to see if it fits into his schedule; he just started shooting "Oblivion" with director Joseph Kosinski and then segues immediately into Doug Liman's "We Mortals Are." Production on "A Star Is Born" might commence as early as June.
Tom Cruise, who's certainly enjoying quite the career comeback since the box office success of "M:i-4," will next be seen rockin' like a hurricane as Stacee Jaxx in "Rock of Ages," opening June 15.
