Well, we just got about a thousand times more excited about next year's Golden Globes.
The producers of the awards ceremony have apparently decided the show needs a woman's touch as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are set to co-host the 70th Annual Golden Globes, according to Deadline.
The lady comedians will be taking over the gig from Ricky Gervais, who hosted the awards show the past three years (often to much morning-after controversy due to his particularly unpredictable and confrontational style of comedy).
"Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year's festivities is a major coup," said Paul Telegdy, NBC's President, Alternative and Late Night Programming (who scores points for using the word 'coup'). "Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful co-starring roles in 'Baby Mama.'"
Oh, yeah ... "Baby Mama." Forgot about that one. Anyway ...
Fey and Poehler are longtime members of the NBC family as they currently headline "30 Rock" and "Parks and Recreation," respectively, which happen to be two of the best comedies currently on television. In fact, we hope this Golden Globes co-hosting gig leads to the long-awaited crossover of the two shows (Jack Donaghy and Ron Swanson in the same room? Yes, please!) - and contains at least one reference to their old positions as co-anchors of "SNL Weekend Update."
The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast on Jan. 13, 2013. In the interim, stay tuned for an official statement from Ricky Gervais (you know it's coming).
