We're going to keep this announcement short and sweet: TheWrap.com, in conjunction with NextMovie, MTV Films and Film.com, is happy to announce the inaugural online short film festival, The ShortList.
Because brevity isn't just the soul of wit, it's the heart of moviemaking.
Running from August 20 through September 4, The ShortList will showcase a dozen award-winning short films cherry-picked from the world's top film festivals. And not only will fans get to view some of the top up-and-coming talents of the future right here on Film.com, they will also get to participate in The ShortList by voting on an online Audience Award, which will be presented live on ePix on September 4 along with a Jury Prize picked by industry experts.
"From its beginning, MTV has inspired and served as an artistic playground for short form creative," said Van Toffler, President of Viacom Music & Logo Group. "Promos, music videos and various shorts made by aspiring filmmakers have always been a part of MTV's fabric. We're excited to be a part of this effort to continue celebrating new talent, new art forms and new platforms."
Sharon Waxman, CEO and Founder of TheWrap.com, agreed.
"The festival is part of The Wrap's mission to shine a light on the most exciting talent in filmmaking," Waxman said. "Film has moved to the mobile space, and we are excited to bring these high quality shorts to our audience and to our readers in the heart of the entertainment industry."
The 12 selected films will be announced on August 20 on the official ShortList website.
