The Rock Rolling Into 'Center of the Earth 2'

Seriously this time, can you smell what The Rock is cooking? Because as far as we can tell, it smells a lot like pterodactyl burgers.

This makes sense considering Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has signed on to replace Brendan Fraser in the upcoming big-budget adventure "Journey to the Center of the Earth 2," per the Hollywood Reporter.

In the original "Journey to the Center of the Earth" remake (the original film was released in 1959), Fraser played heroic everyman Trevor Anderson, doting uncle to Josh Hutcherson's tweenybopper favorite Sean. Trevor ends up dragging his family straight into the belly of mother Gaea during a freaky-deaky storm.

Sadly, scheduling issues forced Fraser to drop out of the sequel, paving the way for The Rock to step in.

Hutcherson, however, will be returning, which is handy as it provides producers with a rising star and a ready-made excuse to include Johnson. The muscled ex-wrestler will play the boyfriend of Sean's mom, whom Hutcherson is "forced to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather." Talk about relationship baggage.

Production on "Journey to the Center of the Earth 2" is tentatively scheduled to begin next month for a Sept. 2011 release.
