You know what the world needs? Another Hollywood award show. We just don't have enough of those things. Luckily, the folks over at Comedy Central still have their wicked sense of humor, because that's exactly what they gave us on Saturday night, as the first annual Comedy Awards were given out in New York City.
The big winners? Tina Fey, Zach Galifianakis -- and your funny bone.
Looks like that new award show was a pretty good idea after all.
Fey, of course, is pretty much on top of the comedy world, so her win in the Best Comedy Actress in Film for her role in "Date Night" is no surprise. Nor in the victory by Galifianakis, who could have earned the Best Comedy Actor in Film trophy for any number of different roles last year, but actually won for "Dinner for Schmucks." Both winners, it should be noted, co-starred opposite Steve Carell, the Hamburger Helper of comedians.
Meanwhile, Will Ferrell was also a big winner, as "The Other Guys" took home the award for Best Comedy Film. And "Toy Story 3" earned its latest accolade, winning the Best Animated Comedy Film category, while Eddie Murphy was honored with a special Comedy Icon award.
Winners in the non-movie categories included "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "Modern Family," "South Park," Daniel Tosh,Alec Baldwin, Kristen Wiig, "Children's Hospital," "Louis C.K.: Hilarious", "The Bed Intruder Song" and David Letterman.
The Comedy Awards is scheduled to air on Comedy Central and the Viacom family of networks on Sunday, April 10 at 9 p.m.
