He may be faster than a speeding bullet, but there's one thing even Superman can't escape: his mother. Metropolis' most civically inclined citizen will be getting some maternal guidance in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Man of Steel."
Actress Ayelet Zurer, who starred opposite Tom Hanks in "Angels and Demons," has been cast as Mr. Metropolis' Earth mother, Martha Kent.
Deadline reports that Zurer is taking over the role from Julia Ormond, who was originally slated to fill the role, although there is no word on why the switch was made.
The Israeli actress, whose first came to prominence with her role in Steven Spielberg's "Munich," will begin filming this week. Zurer joins a cast of veteran actors in Snyder's flick, including Russell Crowe, who plays Superman's birth father, Kryptonian Jor-El, as well as Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, and "Law and Order: SVU" star/deserter Christopher Meloni.
The Man of Steel himself will be played by "The Tudors" star Henry Cavill, two gallons of liquid latex, and a codpiece.
Earlier this year, Snyder expressed his excitement over landing Cavill for the role, announcing, "I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."
