When he's not touring with his bluegrass band The Steep Canyon Rangers, three-time Academy Awards host Steve Martin uses his spare time to give advice to people in need. People like Eddie Murphy.
Martin, star of upcoming comedy "The Big Year" and just general, all-around funnyman, co-starred with Murphy in 1999's "Bowfinger," considered to be one of either actors' better efforts in recent years.
Now, courtesy of his official website SteveMartin.com ("It's inedible!"), the wild and crazy guy has put on his cruel shoes and penned a hilarious letter giving advice to Murphy when he hosts the Oscars next year.
Here are just a few of his gold nuggets of wisdom:
• "Start slimming down now. You looked kinda paunchy in 'NORBIT.'"
• "People always say it's a disgrace that neither you nor I have ever won an Oscar, but they're just being correct."
• "If you feel tired midway through, give Neil Patrick Harris a Red Bull and throw some sheet music at him."
