Stephanie Leigh Schlund Joins 'Catching Fire' as Cashmere

IMDb

If we can say nothing else in support of the hoity-toity District 1, we'll say this: It puts some pretty young ladies into the Arena.

Today, Lionsgate has announced that the newest castmember addition to its "The Hunger Games" sequel "Catching Fire" is Stephanie Leigh Schlund, who'll take on Cashmere.

Cashmere, as you'll recall from the book, is the conceited and showy female victor from District 1 who gets reaped for the Third Quarter Quell alongside her brother Gloss (who'll be portrayed the also very good-looking Alan Ritchson). She and her brother are consecutive winners from previous games who aren't hesitant to step back into the ring — perhaps ignoring the fact that only one of them can survive it, but perhaps just too meat-headed to care. Needless to say, she's not the kind of gal Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) or Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) are prone to ally with, and besides, she probably has a score to settle with Catnip since she was the one to take down her two presumable district mentees Marvel (Jack Quaid) and Glimmer (the comparably beautiful Levin Rambin) in the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

Schlund has worked with "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth before on 2010's "The Last Song," and she's also had bit parts in TV series like "Drop Dead Diva." She'll be featured in this fall's new Fox show "The Following" as well.

Still yet to be formally announced for "Catching Fire" are castmates for the characters Finnick Odair, Beetee, Blight, Cecelia, Woof, and eight others.

Stephanie Leigh Schlund joins Ritchson and the following fellow newcomers to the franchise Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch HeavensbeeJena Malone as Johanna MasonAmanda Plummer as WiressLynn Cohen as MagsMeta Golding as Enobaria,Bruno Gunn as Brutus, and Maria Howell as Seeder. Production is expected to begin on "Catching Fire" in Schlund's native Atlanta, Georgia, next month, and the film will hit theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.
