Long, long ago, in what might as well be another universe (Hollywood, that is), the folks at Lucasfilm came up with a bold and crazy idea: Make an epic "Star Wars" live action TV show. And like everything at Lucasfilm, they proceeded to both go completely balls out while also being mysterious secretive about the whole shebang, with over 50 top secret scripts being written by folks such as "Battlestar Galactica's" Ron Moore. And then... nothing happened.
Are you guys ready for the greatest sci-fi TV show of all time?
Because that's exactly what ABC is hoping to deliver, as according to Entertainment Weekly, the network is about to begin talks with Lucasfilm with the idea of kickstarting the "Star Wars" live action TV series.
"We'd love to do something with Lucasfilm, we're not sure what yet," Lee said. "We haven’t even sat down with them. We're going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren't able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It's definitely going to be part of the conversation."
The acquisition in question, of course, is Lucasfilm being bought by Disney. And since Disney already owns ABC, that means that pesky details like DVD rights and licensing fees — the major problems that kept the show form ever being produced before — are not a big deal. Plus, considering ABC already has hammered out a similar deal for Marvel's upcoming live action "S.H.I.E.L.D." series, parties on both sides know this sort of thing can totally work.
All of which points to "Star Wars" coming to your TV screen sooner rather than later, assuming the show doesn't conflict with Disney's movie plans, which, given the fact the show takes place between the first and second trilogies, it probably won't.
This whole Disney/"Star Wars" thing is starting to look pretty awesome, huh?
