Steven Spielberg: I'll Never Direct a James Bond Movie

He may have made some of the most iconic and successful films of the 20th century ("Indiana Jones," anyone?) but there's one cinema standby that director Steven Spielberg says he'll never get a shot at: James Bond.

Spielberg told the Daily Mail that he approached the Broccoli family, which has produced the Bond films for 50 years, about directing his own 007 flick. The answer: a resounding negative.

"I went to Cubby Broccoli and I asked if I could do one and he said: 'No,'" Spielberg said.

Instead, he went on to build his own franchise.

"I've never asked again," he said. "Instead, I made the 'Indiana Jones' series."

Spielberg's current hit, "Lincoln," is now competing at the box office with the latest Bond installment, "Skyfall." Asked if he's seen it, Spielberg said yes.

"I've seen it once, and I'll see it a second time," he said.
