'Sinister' Sequel Brings Back Mr. Boogie

Sinister Summit

WARNING: SPOILERS!

Do you think Bughuul will upgrade to shooting on digital?

The child-napping pagan deity who likes to commemorate his dastardly deeds on Super 8 film will be back for more bumps in the night as a sequel to "Sinister" has been officially greenlit, according to Deadline.

The first "Sinister," which hit theaters last October and recently became available on Blu-ray and DVD, follows true crime author Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) as he moves his family into a house where bad things happened in an attempt to truly immerse himself in his research (WORST IDEA EVER). He soon discovers a box of old film reels in the attic and, well ... more bad things start to happen, courtesy of Bughuul, an ancient demon who's got a thing for the little ones.

Plot details of the sequel are being kept under wraps, though original writers Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are expected to return to pen the new screenplay, with Derrickson also possibly in the director's chair again.

"Sinister" getting a sequel will make it the third low-budget horror series under the Blumhouse Productions banner, which has found huge success with the "Paranormal Activity" franchise and is looking for box office lightning to strike twice with "Insidious Chapter 2," which just today got pushed from Aug. 30 to Sept. 20. "Sinister" grossed $87 million worldwide on a budget of $3 million (really, the movie did wonders with two houses, a yard, a couple of streets and Vincent D'Onofrio on Skype).

No release date for "Sinister 2" has been announced yet, but there's no reason it couldn't be ready as early as this October if everyone put their minds to it.
