The funny thing is that headline is meant to be taken kind of literally.

Shia LaBeouf is ready to enter the world of horror as he's signed on to play the lead role in "Horns," the adaptation of the novel by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son, by the way), according to Variety.

Shia will play Ig Perrish, a young man who awakens after a night of heavy debauchery to find he's got horns on his head. As his horns grow bigger, Ig sets out to investigate the unsolved murder of his girlfriend and its connection to his strange condition.

Keith Bunin ("In Treatment") is adapting the book, which Joe Hill optioned to Mandalay Pictures. Hill will also be executive producing the film.

Meanwhile, plans to adapt Hill's first novel, "Heart-Shaped Box," about an aging rock star who ends up being haunted by the ghost of his ex-girlfriend's stepfather, are still on hold. Neil Jordan was attached to the project way back in 2007.

Shia LaBeouf will next be seen in a little movie about alien robots called "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," opening July 1.
