Is Shailene Woodley shaping up to be the next Kristen Stewart or Jennifer Lawrence?
The "Descendants" star is having quite the amazing month as she's now in talks to play the female lead in "Divergent," according to Deadline. This comes hot on the heels of news that Woodley is also being courted to play the role of Mary Jane Watson in the sequel to "The Amazing Spider-Man."
"Divergent" is based on the YA sci-fi novel by Veronica Roth, the first installment in a planned trilogy. The story takes place in future Chicago, where the population is separated into five different factions based on particular values and beliefs:
1. Candor (the honest)
2. Erudite (the intelligent)
3. Amity (the peaceful)
4. Dauntless (the courageous)
5. Abnegation (the selfless)
Our heroine is Beatrice 'Tris' Prior, a 16-year-old who leaves her Abnegation group to join the Dauntless faction, where she must perform many death-defying stunts and tasks to prove that she can indeed "live without fear."
This would be quite the high-profile gig for Woodley, as would her involvement in the "Spider-Man" series. This young actress' cinematic future certainly looks bright now that her TV show, "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," has been officially canceled.
"Divergent" is set to be directed by Neil Burger ("Limitless") and has a planned release date of March 21, 2014.
