Seth MacFarlane Says 'No Way' to Hosting the Oscars Again

You know, just like how J.J. Abrams said he wouldn't direct the new "Star Wars."

Response was mixed to Seth MacFarlane's hosting of the 85th Annual Academy Awards (personally, we thought he came off best whenever he didn't try so hard), but even if Oscar ends up wanting him back for another go-round, the "Family Guy" creator doesn't want the gig, according to The Live Feed.

"No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though," MacFarlane tweeted Tuesday morning in response to a question from one of his nearly 3.8 million followers.

The 85th Annual Academy Awards had 40 million viewers and a 19 percent boost among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic, which made the broadcast a hit as far as numbers are concerned. But the show is also already considered to be one of the most awkward and uneven in the history of the Oscars with too-long bits with William Shatner, underwhelming musical tributes and jokes about John Wilkes Booth that weren't so much offensive as they were just unfunny (and unnecessary).

MacFarlane received criticism for his hit-and-miss subversive humor, with the "Ted"-themed segment getting slammed for perpetuating anti-Semitic stereotypes. However, the host was also praised for keeping things relatively tame (for him) and for holding the show together with song-and-dance showmanship.

Whatever the final verdict on MacFarlane will be when it comes time to archive his performance in the annals of Oscar history, the Academy definitely deserves kudos for taking risks this year. We'll take "awkward" and "uneven" over "boring" any day.
