UPDATE (6/24/2013): According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations for Sandra Bullock to play Miss Hannigan in the upcoming "Annie" adaptation have ended. Bullock was reportedly offered the role, but turned it down. After back and forth talks since March, it appears the sun will not come out for Miss Congeniality.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bullock is in early negotiations to play Miss Hannigan in the upcoming adaptation of "Annie." The new flick will star Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role and Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks, a contemporary reinvention of Daddy Warbucks. Sony is making the film alongside Will Smith and Jay-Z as producers.
But Miss Congeniality hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. Sony approached Bullock with the idea in early March, but she passed. It appears the allure of orphanages and tacky-patterned muumuus was enough for Bullock to take a second look at the project—she’s back in discussions.
If Bullock does accept the role, she’ll be in fantastic company. Will Gluck ("Easy A," "Friends with Benefits") is directing the movie. James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jay Brown and Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith are co-producing the film with Jay-Z and Will Smith under Marcy Media.
Production is expected to start in late fall and the film is slated for a 2014 release.
