After weeks of speculation, Sam Claflin has now finally been confirmed by "The Hunger Games" studio Lionsgate to be the official selection for Finnick Odair in "Catching Fire"!
Finnick Odair is that beautiful District 4 victor who has the Capitol's citizens in his pocket. He won the 65th Annual Hunger Games at just fourteen years old and was sent back into the Games in the Third Quarter Quell to compete with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and others. He - unbeknownst to some of his allies - plays a major part in carrying out the revolutionaries' big plan.
Finnick's an excellent swimmer, and his weapon of choice is the trident. Also, erm, he prefers to wear barely-there ensembles, which totally makes the ladies swoon, save Katniss, so prepare to see some serious ab action from Claflin in the film.
Claflin has been considered the front-runner for the part of Finnick since July and joins fellow confirmed "Hunger Games" newcomers Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Amanda Plummer as Wiress, Lynn Cohen as Mags, Meta Golding as Enobaria,Bruno Gunn as Brutus,Maria Howell as Seeder, and Stephanie Leigh Schlund as Cashmere.
"Catching Fire" is expected to begin production in Atlanta, Georgia next month, directed by "Water For Elephants" and "I Am Legend" helmer Francis Lawrence.
Clalfin was last seen as the Prince in this June's "Snow White and the Huntsman" and has also starred in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
Now, the big question remains: Who'll portray his lady love, Annie?
