Sacha Baron Cohen Dictates His Terms to the Academy

Paramount

Despite all the lip service about comedic provocateur Sacha Baron Cohen being "banned" from this Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony, it came out later that his tickets hadn't been pulled but a spokesperson confirmed that the board was "waiting to hear what he's going to do."

Boy, has he done something now.

Flanked by armed guards in the guise of new character Admiral General Alladeen, he's issued a video statement direct from his palace in the (fictional) Republic of Wadiya that's bound to stir up controversy… and maybe interest in new movie "The Dictator?"

Said the great General: "On behalf of the nation of Wadiya, I am outraged at being banned from the Oscars by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Zionists. While I applaud the Academy for taking away my right to free speech, I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 p.m. on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences!"

The "Hugo" star goes on to complain about his $2 million date, Hillary Swank, and made light of the Academy's own controversy earlier this year by mentioning his intent to attend director Brett Ratner's afterparty "since it's impossible to catch herpes twice."

Alladeen also appeared via phone on the "Today" show where he reiterated his threat and inquired, "How is your eunuch Al Roker?"

You can see both videos below, but you'll have to cross your fingers and hope the Academy is hip enough to allow Cohen's antics on the red carpet, whether they're a transparent publicity stunt or not. After all, if he dressed as a gay angel and put his butt in Eminem's face for the MTV Movie Awards, what could he have in store for Oscar night? Kidnapping Helen Mirren?
