Call us sentimental, but there's nothing we like better than seeing two good-looking actors face off in a crime drama, one on either side of the law, leaving us morally conflicted as to who to root for.

It's been awhile since we saw one of those, but Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper have stepped up, and will be starring in "The Place Beyond the Pines."

According to Variety, "Pines" will be a "multi-generational crime drama." It centers on a professional motorcycle rider (Gosling) who turns to crime to provide for his newborn son. His criminal path crosses that of a rookie police officer (Cooper), and their confrontation turns into a lifelong conflict.

But their fight doesn't end with them, but goes on to poison the next generation. Will their kids take on their respective paths of law and crime, or will we see some kind of "Romeo and Juliet" scenario play out? We'll don't know, but we're hooked.

"Pines" reunites Gosling with his "Blue Valentine" writer-director Derek Cianfrance, and shooting is set to begin this summer. Considering the awards attention "Valentine" attracted last winter, we suspect Gosling and Cooper might be the toast of critics and audiences next year. At the very least, they're giving us a really intriguing drama that's undoubtedly going to leave us heartbroken.

Cooper and Gosling -- who do you choose in that kind of story? It's already killing us.
