Russell Crowe will soon be singing for his supper, though the rest of 30 Odd Foot of Grunts won't be joining him.
The "Robin Hood" star has been confirmed to be playing the driven and doomed Javert in the film adaptation of the much-celebrated Broadway musical, "Les Miserables," according to Deadline.
Crowe is a pitch-perfect choice for the obsessed detective who dedicates (and, ultimately, wastes) his life in the dogged pursuit of ex-convict Jean Valjean, who will be played by Hugh Jackman.
Javert eventually realizes his life has been one of completely misguided passion and commits suicide by jumping off a bridge, a show-stopping moment on stage that we're sure will be just as impressive on the big screen.
No other cast members have been announced yet, though actors who have been courted for roles include Geoffrey Rush for Thenardier, Helena Bonaham Carter for Madame Thenardier, Emma Watson for Cosette and Lucy Hale for Eponine. Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams and Rebecca Hall are reportedly on the short list for the role of Fantine.
Filming on "Les Miserables" is set to commence in Feb. 2012 under the direction of Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech") with a look toward a Dec. 7, 2012 release date.
