Even though he's going through a divorce, don't ever say that Russell Brand doesn't believe in love.
The "Rock of Ages" star will soon have to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow as he signs on to play the title role in "Cupid," according to Variety.
"Cupid" takes a contemporary meta approach to the myth of the Roman god of affection, with Brand playing a deity who's grown cynical and embittered ... and who's forced to finagle an ideal romance. We assume this new "assignment" will put a spring back in his own stride.
News of Brand's involvement comes hot on the heels of him signing on to another comedy, "Pierre Pierre," earlier this week. Brand will also serve as producer on "Cupid," which is set to be written and directed by Joe Nussbaum ("Prom").
Russell Brand is keeping busy upon splitting up with his wife, Katy Perry. He recently hosted the MTV Movie Awards ("'Twilight,' 'Hunger Games!'") and has wrapped Diablo Cody's still-untitled directorial debut. He's also attached to "The Hauntrepreneur" and has a voice role in the upcoming "Despicable Me 2."
"Cupid" is still in the early stages, so don't expect sparks (and arrows) to fly until later this year at the earliest.
