It looks like Rooney Mara will be headed for the Lone Star State after she leaves "Brooklyn."
The "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" star has scored her third gig this week as she's signed on for Texas-set drama, "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," according to Deadline.
Mara joins Ben Foster and Casey Affleck for the '70s-set yarn in which an outlaw escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas countryside to reunite with his wife and the daughter he never met. The film will be written and directed by David Lowery, who made quite a splash with his short film, "Pioneers," which won the Grand Jury Award at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival, according to The Playlist.
Rooney Mara is now officially booked for at least the rest of the year, as this week alone she replaced Carey Mulligan in Spike Jonze's latest (and currently untitled) project and signed on to headline the adaptation of Colm Toibin's "Brooklyn." She's also got Terrence Malick's new film in the pipeline and is still shooting Steven Soderbergh's "The Bitter Pill."
So when — and, at this point, how — will the "Dragon Tattoo" sequels fit into all of this? It seems more and more like no one's really in a rush to get started on "The Girl Who Played With Fire."
Anyway, Mara's co-stars seem tailor-made for something like "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," as Casey Affleck encountered (and caused) all sorts of Texas trouble in "The Killer Inside Me" and Ben Foster blazed a trail across the American badlands with his psycho turn in "3:10 to Yuma." It remains to be seen whether the film will keep its cool but admittedly not very marketable title.
Production on "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" will commence once Rooney Mara can manage it.
