For more than a decade, Reese Witherspoon has delighted audiences with knockout performances — and she's about to be recognized for all of them.
MTV has just announced that the flaxen-haired Oscar winner will receive its Generation Award at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards.
What started with a role opposite Mark Wahlberg (not so long after he shed the name Marky Mark, just to put the timing in perspective) in the cult thriller "Fear" soon transitioned into higher profile flicks like the scandalous "Cruel Intentions." From there, she nailed the role of Elle Woods in the 2001 breakout hit "Legally Blonde," which established her as a comedy goddess.
But Witherspoon was just getting started. In 2005, she nabbed an Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter in "Walk the Line," and, most recently, she led a star-studded cast in the silver screen adaptation of the best-selling novel, "Water for Elephants."
We could go on, but you get the idea.
MTV President Stephen Friedman called the now-35-year-old stunner "one of the most versatile and accomplished performers of her time."
We couldn't agree more, and while we can only imagine what Witherspoon has in store for us in the future, one thing is certain. This is one Hollywood golden girl whose work ethic truly matches her talent.
Past winners of MTV's version of a lifetime achievement award include Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.
"Saturday Night Live" star Jason Sudeikis will host the ceremony, which airs live on June 5 at 9 p.m. ET.
