Cloning Dinosaurs for a Real World 'Jurassic Park': Just How Dumb Are We?

From the moment the first frames of Fritz Lang's classic sci-fi epic "Metropolis" first unspooled back in 1927, filmmakers have been warning the world about the dangers of scientific hubris. And the message seemed to be pretty clear: if you mess with forces beyond human control, chances are something really bad is going to happen. It's fairly simple, right?

Well, apparently it's not simple enough, because get this: According to /Film, billionaire businessman Clive Palmer is rumored to be in the process of trying to clone dinosaurs for his own real world "Jurassic Park."

What could possibly go wrong?!

Of course, it's important to stress that this is just a rumor, and one that Palmer has actually already denied. "It's just a beat-up of a story and untrue," he said. "There was never any verification, the journalist never spoke to me."

Still, as ridiculous as this story sounds — and it sounds pretty ridiculous, even the part where Palmer is supposedly consulting with the same scientists that cloned the sheep Dolly back in 1996 — it gains some credence from the fact that Palmer is actually building a full-scale replica of the "Titanic" that he is going to use as a floating casino. "Floating" being used in the most optimistic way possible.

So it's not much of a leap of faith to go from recreating the "Titanic" to cloning dinosaurs. After all, both were the subject of huge international blockbusters back in the '90s and both feature people doing incredibly stupid things. All of which just goes to prove the old adage: Those who don't watch movies about history are doomed to repeat it.
