If you've been overwhelmed by all the best movie lists coming out over the last few weeks, we don't blame you. After all, it seems like everyone from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to the Freemasons to the American Dental Association has weighed in with their top picks.

Now, however, there's finally a brand new top films list from a source you can trust: Quentin Tarantino.

And as you might expect, this one contains more than a few surprises. Forget "The Descendants" or "My Week with Marilyn." How about "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Three Musketeers" instead?

Not that it's any surprise that Tarantino is full of surprises; after all, QT's offbeat aesthetic is pretty well known by this point. In fact, the real surprise is that so many of his picks are mainstream films instead of weird indie grindhouse flicks. But true to form, the list he posted to The Quentin Tarantino Archives over the weekend is light on the serious drama and heavy on action, horror, sci-fi and ... Woody Allen?

Yes, Allen's acclaimed hit "Midnight in Paris" took the top spot, which isn't so strange when you consider that Tarantino and Allen are both renowned first and foremost for their intricate, witty dialogue. And Tarantino's love of cool, subversive action is in evidence as well with picks like the subversive alien invasion film "Attack the Block" and Kevin Smith's political bloodbath "Red State."

Of course, Tarantino couldn't quite manage to limit himself to just eleven picks even though this is a top eleven list; he had to throw in a twelfth title just for kicks. Plus, he added another supplemental chart of all the other films he liked over the course of 2011, so if you want to check out the ultimate DVD playlist, just head over the the Quentin Tarantino Archives for his full list of choices. In the meantime, though, here's Quentin Tarantino's official Top Eleven of 2011 — apes, mutants, musketeers and all.

1. "Midnight In Paris"
2. "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes"
3. "Moneyball"
4. "The Skin I Live In"
5. "X-Men: First Class"
6. "Young Adult"
7. "Attack The Block"
8. "Red State"
9. "Warrior"
10. "The Artist" / "Our Idiot Brother" (tie)
11. "The Three Musketeers"
