Jessica Chastain is pretty much everywhere a young actress wants to be. Her résumé is chock-full of this year's hottest titles, from legendary director Terrence Malick's "Tree of Life" to the box-office winner "The Help." Now it looks like she's going to take on an even heavier crown with a biography of the late Princess Diana.
Annual industry gathering American Film Market is reporting that Chastain is attached to the movie "Caught in Flight," which would focus on Princess Di's affair with Dr. Hasnat Khan, a heart surgeon that she reportedly referred to as "Mr. Wonderful." This love affair was so secret that Khan refused to speak about the relationship until 2008, 11 years after it ended and a year after Diana's untimely death. According to Khan's interview with The Telegraph, Diana considered converting to Islam to be with him. They broke up after two years together.
Besides the controversy surrounding any Princess Diana project, the script reportedly doesn't do Princess Di any favors; in it, "she is shown as a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair."
The project's director, Oliver Hirschbiegel, helmed the film "Downfall," starring Bruno Ganz as Hitler -- which means he is also inadvertently responsible for the "Nein! Nein! Nein" Hitler meme on YouTube.
"Caught in Flight" is slated to go into pre-production next March and will have a budget of $15 million, with a wide array of filming locations around the world. However, at least one other Princess Di project never took off, despite some big names like Keira Knightley and Helen Mirren attached. Will "Caught in Flight" take off? Stay tuned.
