You won't have to wait for the "Justice League" movie to see Batman and Superman team up on the big screen.
Well, sort of. The LEGO versions of the DC superheroes are set to join forces in "LEGO: The Piece of Resistance," according to Variety.
"LEGO: The Piece of Resistance" tells the story of Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt), an ordinary LEGO mini-figure who's mistaken for the extraordinary MasterBuilder and subsequently drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.
Somehow, both Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) and Superman (hopefully voiced by Channing Tatum) fit into this epic adventure ... and we have a feeling a few other LEGO-ized pop culture characters may make appearances as well.
This live-action/3-D-animated mashup comes courtesy of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the co-directors of "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and "21 Jump Street." They've offered the role of the Man of Steel to their "Jump Street" pal Tatum but it remains to be seen whether he can fit the gig into his busy schedule, which currently includes "White House Down," "Foxcatcher," "Jupiter Ascending" and the "Jump Street" sequel. Oh, and reshoots for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," apparently.
"LEGO: The Piece of Resistance" has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2008. Chris McKay, director of Adult Swim's stop-motion animated comedy "Robot Chicken," was recently brought on board to serve as co-director under Lord and Miller, and the animation will be handled by Animal Logic.
Chris Pratt was recently seen stealing scenes in "The Five-Year Engagement" and will next be seen in Kathryn Bigelow's more serious-minded (and still untitled) Osama bin Laden film, which hits theaters on Dec. 19. Will Arnett, a voiceover veteran, was recently seen as Agent AA in "Men in Black 3" and is waiting in the wings for the long-awaited "Arrested Development" movie to get out of, well, development and into production.
"LEGO: The Piece of Resistance" is currently scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 28, 2014.
