Aca-Amazing! 'Pitch Perfect 2' Is a Go

Pitch Perfect Universal

UPDATE: The sequel to "Pitch Perfect" has been given the green light, according to SlashFilm. Universal bigwig Adam Fogelson made the announcement at CineCon Las Vegas and said the plan is to release the film in 2015.

Kay Cannon will be returning to write the script, and we can only imagine that most if not all of the original cast members will be back, too.

Do ya think the well-received "Pitch Perfect" reunion at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards had something to do with this? We do.

There's good news and bad news today for fans of "Pitch Perfect." The good news is that according to Movieweb, stars Skylar Astin and Rebel Wilson are in talks to film "Pitch Perfect 2." The bad news is that there may be a "Pitch Perfect 2."

After all, when a movie is so perfect it actually has "Perfect" in the title, can the series to anything but go downhill?

That doesn't seem to be a concern for Astin, of course, who spilled the beans regarding the possibility of a sequel to this fall's surprise hit about an all-girl a capella group. After revealing that Wilson has already spoken to Universal about a sequel, Astin said that, "I think that I am willing to do anything. I like to collaborate. If my voice will be heard, then I will do some research and think about it.

"There are definitely times where I am listening to the radio, and I think, 'That would be awesome. I would love to sing that,'" Astin added. "It's this weird karaoke fantasy that I might someday get to live out on the big screen. Then again, I know there are so many politics in that decision-making. Also relevance. If we film this next year, and it doesn't come out for another year and a half, will that song still be popular? Will it be over played? I think they did such a perfect job. The music landed so perfectly when it came out the first time, I can't imagine, if the same people are involved, that lightning won't strike twice. I will sing whatever they want me to sing."

Frankly, we share all of Astin's concerns about a possible sequel. Once was great; twice is really pushing it. Plus, we'd really rather see Wilson continue to stretch her wings and find new projects with bigger roles. We love "Pitch Perfect," you guys, but "Pitch Perfect 2?"

Now that sounds like a sour note. Let us know what you think in the comments.
