Pretty much every kid dreams of being a superhero when they grow up, but which superhero is a matter of personal taste. Many kids want to be Batman or Superman, of course, while others imagine themselves as Captain America or Iron Man.
But not Paul Giamatti. No, when Paul Giamatti was a kid, he dreamed of being the somewhat goofy B-list Spider-Man villain The Rhino.
And according to The Hollywood Reporter, that dream is about to come true.
Yes, that's right: Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Giamatti is currently in talks to play The Rhino in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," where he would join an already packed cast that includes Jamie Foxx as Electro and returning cast members Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
Plus, Felicity Jones is apparently in talks to play an as-yet unrevealed part (The Black Cat?). So it's a little unclear just how much screen time Giamatti would have. But what is clear is that for the acclaimed actor, The Rhino is the role of a lifetime.
"I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid," Giamatti told ShowbizSpy back in 2011."It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, 'Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,' but maybe The Rhino wasn't that big of a deal for anybody but me...If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting."
In fact, Giamatti loves The Rhino so much, he even went on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" back in the day to stump for the role, as shown in this clip unearthed by Screen Crush. See kids? Sometimes dreams — even weird ones — do come true:
