Film critics may have wept over her performance in "House of Wax," but Paris Hilton's tears at the Cannes Film Festival came courtesy of Sofia Coppola. The 32 year-old heiress/model/reality TV star/singer/actress/Kim-Kardashian-before-Kim-Kardashian watched a screening of "The Bling Ring," Coppola's true-life tale about the teenaged burglars whose crime spree included a break-in at Hilton's house. She provided her real home as a location for the movie and cameos in it, as well.
"I was really emotional watching it," Hilton told a reporter for Vulture at the after-party. "I literally had tears in my eyes and I wanted to cry. I knew what happened with the burglaries, but I had never actually seen it — so watching it happen, I was like, 'Oh my God, this really happened to me. These kids were really in my house and did this to me.' It's so violating. It just made me really angry and upset, and when I see these kids, I want to, like, slap them."
Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga, Leslie Mann, Israel Broussard and Katie Chang star in "The Bling Ring," which chronicles the exploits of the celebrity-obsessed teens who used the 'net to track down stars and raid their homes. Coppola wrote, directed and produced, as she has with much of her critically acclaimed filmography (Unfortunately, she doesn't act in it. Who didn't love her in "The Godfather: Part III" or "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace?")
Hilton told Vulture that watching the movie, which is told from the kids' point of view, didn't necessarily make her any more sympathetic toward them. "No way!" Hilton said. "Well, I actually kinda felt bad for the guy, because I feel like he didn't want to steal the clothes and all that stuff, really. He just wanted to be cool and fit in with that girl. So I mostly blame the main girl. I don't know her name. But her." So much for getting famous from your crimes, Bling Ring!
