UPDATE: Well, we were off by a week. "Paranormal Activity 4" will actually begin haunting theaters on Friday, Oct. 19, not Friday, Oct. 26 as we originally thought.
That last weekend in October seemed like the logical choice for the latest round of "Activity," but Dimension has already claimed that spot for "Halloween 3D," according to Deadline. This will be the first installment in the rebooted "Halloween" series to actually hit theaters around the holiday it's named after -- Rob Zombie's "Halloween" and "Halloween II" both opened in August (of 2007 and 2009, respectively).
Wow... is the New Horror Franchise not daring to mess with the Old Horror Franchise? Somewhere out there in the darkness, Michael Myers is shaking his knife-wielding fist in triumph.

That Toby sure is a busy little demon!
We all knew it was coming, though Paramount has now made it official with the announcement that moviegoers will indeed be haunted by a fourth "Paranormal Activity," according to Variety.
It's not surprising that Paramount is going for "4," as last fall's "Paranormal Activity 3" broke all sorts of box office records, including setting a new record for a midnight opening for a horror film ($8 million); the best opening day for a horror film in the United States ($26.2 million); and the highest opening for any film in October.
Gee, might there be more money to be made -- and scares to be conjured? Get those video cameras rolling!
Even though each "Paranormal Activity" installment has been a little worse than the one before it (that witches' coven nonsense in "3" was particularly silly), the story of poor Katie and Kristi is still a compelling one -- and one that we're nowhere near ready to see come to a final close. Hey, if the "Saw" series could have seven chapters, so too could "Paranormal Activity."
Stay tuned for director and cast announcements sometime in the coming months, though don't expect any plot details until the very first trailer is released -- you know how tight-lipped Paramount is with this series.
No release date for "Paranormal Activity 4" has been set, though we're betting on Friday, Oct. 26.
