Anyone Wanna Buy James Bond's Submarine Car?

MGM MGM

Those boyhood dreams of yours of being as slick as Bond, James Bond now have a slightly higher possibility of coming true.

In September, the Lotus Espirit Series 1 submarine that Roger Moore's Bond piloted in "The Spy Who Loved Me", will be put up for auction in London (... rockets, unreasonably sexy secretaries, and creepy, partially deformed villains sold separately, of course, and the submarine probably should not be driven under the influence of any shaken-not-stirred martinis).

As detailed by The Guardian, the auctioneers are claiming that the car was kept in a Long Island storage unit for a decade, get this, until it was bought in 1989 by a couple who'd purchased the container without knowing what was inside. Yuuuuuuuup.

Apparently it was the only version of the car that was built to be an actual, operational submarine. There were a bunch of other cars built to simulate the car's transformation into a submarine, but this was the only model that could go underwater. And while this piece of Bond memorabilia is admittedly pretty awesome, chances are it won't bring in the 3 million pounds that an Aston Martin DB5 which was used in both "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" brought in at auction.

In addition to wondering if it's still fully operational — 'cause, ya know, that could be pretty disastrous if not — we're also curious whether the submarine's stereo exclusively plays "Nobody Does It Better" by Carly Simon (two words: title sequence). That'd up the asking price a little bit, no?
