Nicolas Cage as Superman was almost a thing. No, we're not pulling your leg.
Back in the late '90s, Kevin Smith was tapped to pen a script for "Superman Lives," which would then be directed by Tim Burton and star Nic Cage as the Man of Steel. The project ultimately fell through, for reasons producer Jon Schnepp aspires to explore in full with his Kickstarter documentary campaign "The Death of 'Superman Lives' What Happened?," and so it lives on like so many other would-be flicks do - as another installment of Hollywood Sliding Doors.
Shelved though this movie may have been, a new supposed image of Cage in a test costume has come along to show that maybe we did miss out on something interesting with Cage as the Kryptonite-dodging superhero.
Not too shabby, Nic! Sure as heck beats the stuffing out of this.
It's worth noting that Nicolas Cage is a giant Superman fan. The dude named his son Kal-El for cripes sake. Not to mention, he made history by selling his copy of "Action Comics" No. 1 - which includes the first appearance of Superman in a comic book - for a record-breaking $2.161 million last year. So, this lost movie matching is probably extra salty for him. At least he gets a little could woulda shoulda redemption with this long-lost pic ... assuming it's the real deal, that is.
