Sylvester Stallone: Nicolas Cage in 'Expendables 3' Is NOT On Like Donkey Kong

UPDATE: Okay, so maybe Nicolas Cage isn't going to be in "Expendables 3," as Sylvester Stallone has told Deadline that previous reports of the "Ghost Rider" star's involvement in the action sequel are false.

The Facebook page that had posted the news of Cage's casting is apparently run by a fan and is not Stallone's own "official" page.

Consider this to be merely a minor setback, as we don't see how Nicolas Cage could not eventually be in "Expendables 3." Stay tuned.

In a roster already overcrowded with big names (and even bigger egos), the "Expendables" movies can only become overstuffed to the point of parody should they continue, so why not cast Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage, whose recent career output ("Season of the Witch," "Drive Angry") has been nothing but self-parody anyway?

"Expendables" head honcho Sylvester Stallone has now confirmed via his Facebook that occasional Ghost Rider/full-time lunatic Nicolas Cage will again prove how expendable his reputation is by participating in the hypothetical threequel.

"We are preparing ["Expendables 3"] with the same passion and commitment as the previous two," Stallone wrote. "We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group."

"Veneer intellectual group?" We presume Stallone chose these words using the random cutup technique employed by the likes of William S. Burroughs or David Bowie. Alternately, maybe he considers Nicolas Cage a truly brilliant mind. Those who've seen "Vampire's Kiss" can be sure Cage knows his A-B-Cs.

"Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke," Stallone continues, hopefully. "That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga."

Nice grammar there, Sly.

"The Expendables 2" will hit DVD/Blu-ray on Nov. 20, and will hopefully come in a combo pack with a digital download of the film and a copy of Strunk & White's "The Elements of Style."
