'Won't Back Down' Trailer Makes the Grade

Fox

The first trailer for "Won't Back Down," a film co-written and directed by Daniel Barnz ("Beastly," "Phoebe in Wonderland") has dropped, featuring its strong cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal, the unconquerable Viola DavisVing Rhames and Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter.

The flick tells a very consumable (and tear-jerking) story of parents and teachers aligning to step up and make a change in their kids' under-performing school.

Every year, there's at least one: a feel-good family film which tackles tough real world issues and somehow ends on a smile. Sometimes these are based on true stories, and sometimes not. What's important about this type of movie is that it draws upon an unsavory element of cultural truth and presents an unlikely hero who's clever and determined enough to muscle through doubters, administrative obstacles, and his or her own personal hangups. In other words, the hero just won't back down 'til the win over the societal ailment in question. See what we did there?

Take a look at the trailer below, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, and see if you agree that this is a sure bet for awards season consideration already. "Won't Back Down" hits theaters on Sept. 28.
