Latest Trailer For 'On the Road' Picks Up Speed

On the Road
MK2 Productions

It's been thirty years in the making, but Walter Salles' film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's iconic novel, "On the Road" is finally (almost) here. In anticipation of this Cannes favorite (where it premiered earlier this spring), a brand new trailer has surfaced that gives us the most in-depth preview of the star-studded film yet.

Like the book, the movie follows Sal Paradise (a character played by Sam Riley and based on Kerouac himself), Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund) and Dean's 16-year-old bride, Marylou (Kristen Stewart) as they set off on a cross-country road trip from New York to California in search of their version of the American dream, which seems to involve dancing, hitchhiking and disappointing their parents.

While this trailer is technically only thirteen seconds longer than its predecessor, it gives us a better glimpse of the gang hangin' out, the people who disapprove and the emotional depth the film is going for. Which is pretty deep.

We gotta say, though, a trailer that clocks in under two minutes is still pretty short for a movie with a runtime of nearly two hours and twenty minutes. It did leave us wanting more, however, so guess it did its job. But don't take our word for it. Check the newer, longer version, courtesy of IndieWire and see if you can't wait to see Kerouac in action for yourself.
