How do you best recreate the era of silent movies? Make a silent movie!
Set during the transition from silents to sound, "The Artist" is itself a silent movie, chronicling the golden era of Hollywood with a stylized romance shot in glorious black and white.
The film is currently screening at the Cannes Film Festival, where it's been removed from the "Out of Competition" category and is now an official selection, which means it has a shot at the Palme d'Or.
Directed by Michel Hazanavicius, "The Artist" stars John Goodman, Penelope Ann Miller, Missy Pyle and James Cromwell alongside French actors Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo.
Check out the trailer below, with thanks to ComingSoon.net for the find. If there's anything that might upstage just the sheer style of it all, it might be that cute dog (or the cameo by the Invisible Man, or whatever it is).
