It's been a long, long wait for fans of 2009's "Star Trek" reboot, but today we finally have our first look at next year's sequel, "Star Trek Into Darkness." So does this new teaser trailer from J.J. Abrams live up to expectations?
Well, if you were expecting Benedict Cumberbatch to totally steal the show, then the answer is "yes."
Cumberbatch, of course, is having himself a bit of a moment right now, what with his BBC series "Sherlock" being a worldwide sensation and his upcoming role as the dragon Smaug in the "Hobbit" trilogy generating massive buzz.
But if you think he chews up the scenery as Smaug, you ain't seen nothing yet, because his new bad guy appears to be trying to burn down the entire world in this clip for "Star Trek Into Darkness." Oh, sure, there's also plenty of Chris Pine's Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto's Spock and all of that stuff, but this first clip is all about the Cumberbatch.
"Star Trek Into Darkness" opens on May 17, but you can get a sneak peek right now, courtesy of Rope of Silicon:
