Looks like Robert Pattinson is taking a break from the Cullen clan and heading to Paris. Sort of.
In the new U.S. trailer for "Bel Ami," based on the classic novel by Guy de Maupassant (it was probably on your high school reading list), everyone's favorite vampire is spreading his thespian wings to tackle the lead role of mere mortal Georges Duroy, a penniless soldier seeking his fortune through the "generosity" of the city's richest women ... who happen to be the wives of the city's richest men. You can see how that could get kinda messy.
Between the corsets and cravats, however, Pattinson holds his own, and then some. From what we can see, he manages to bed Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci (no small feat, in our humble opinion), though he only falls for one of the ladies, of course.
While it remains to be seen whether this period piece of timeless literature holds its own in today's theaters, one thing is certain: Pattinson looks mighty fine in a top hat. But don't take our word for it. Check out this man-about-town for yourself in the just-released trailer, courtesy of YouTube, and place your bets on whether Georges truly believes it's not enough to be loved. (Fingers crossed he'll come around.)
"Bel Ami" arrives in theaters on June 8.
