Usually when a movie gets an NC-17 rating these days, the studio either launches some kind of media campaign to get the rating changed (see: "Bully") or they cut everything offensive out of it to sneak in under the R wire (see: "Blue Valentine").
And then there's "Killer Joe," which has decided to just say eff it and accept the rating as a badge of honor.
Are you even ready for this trailer?
Before you answer, consider these details: Emile Hirsch plays a small town loser who gets himself into a world of trouble with some badasses who want either a bunch of money or his head on a platter. So he comes up with a cunning plan: Cash in on his mom's life insurance policy by hiring a local cop (Matthew McConaughey) to bump her off.
Just how badly this plan goes is pretty clearly reflected in the NC-17 rating — and in this new trailer, which also features eye-opening performances from the likes of Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple. So check it out, courtesy of indieWire. And help stick it to the man:
