Sam Raimi's "The Evil Dead" became a beloved horror cult classic not just because of the unparalleled awesomeness and badassery of Bruce Campbell, but also because it was the kind of flick that really went there. Blood, possession, ridiculous brutality, you name it ... There's just no forgetting that moment when a tree commits a violent sexual act in a movie. Seriously.
Sony Pictures has now released the first trailer for its long-awaited Fede Alvarez-helmed re-boot of the film — featuring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore as the five young friends who travel to a cabin in the woods and unwittingly unlock those terrible demons — and from the looks of it, the studio definitely means to reassure wary fans of the original that the new version will be just as gross if not more so.
Hacksaws, a knife to the face (and tongue - ick!), creepy crawlies, wicked torture devices and yup, even that evil tree come together for this gorefest of one very NSFW red band trailer. Brace for massive amounts of awesome yuck.
"The Evil Dead" hits theaters on April 12, 2013.
