'CBGB' Trailer: '50,000 Bands and 1 Disgusting Bathroom'

When the little hole in the wall that once housed acts like The Talking Heads, Blondie, The Ramones, The Police and Iggy Pop among others ends up getting shut down over some random rent dispute with the owner threatening to steal the urinals, yeah, there's a story there alright.

CBGB* — which stood for "Country, BlueGrass and Blues" in the beginning, though its palette of musicians didn't quite follow suit — might be a thing of the past now that its owner let the business slip into financial disrepair, but it remains legendary within the '70s and '80s rock scene (long hair, guys wearing makeup, big attitudes and all). As this first trailer Randall Miller's "CBGB" (via The Hollywood Reporter) shows, while the film indeed pays proper homage to the many, many impressive acts seen at the famed New York City club, it centers on the man behind the musical moxie, Hilly Kristal (Alan Rickman), and his many financial and familial woes.

Kristal established the joint on top of his old Manhattan bar back in '72, and it became a haven for new wave and punk musicians until its forced closure in 2006.

Malin Akerman, Stana Katic, Ryan Hurst, Johnny Galecki, Kyle Gallner, Justin Bartha, Bradley Whitford, Mickey Summer and even Ronald Weasley Rupert Grint are among the many, many rock star impersonators featured, and Ashley Greene also stars as Kristal's pissed off kid.

"CBGB" hits theaters on Oct. 11.

*The club was also subtitled OMFUG, which stood for Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers. That last word means ravenous consumer, which supposedly applies to the CBGB crowd.
