Seems like every cynical New Yorker's dream is about to come true: Los Angeles is gettin' all blowed up by aliens!
Columbia Pictures just dropped the shiny new trailer for its big budget sci fi flick "Battle: Los Angeles" on Apple Trailers, and it promises all the carnage and destruction a growing boy or girl needs. The film features Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, and the incredible Michael Peña (all fans of "Eastbound and Down" know he loves to racism, bro).
Set to the creepy auto-tuned ballad "The Sun's Gone Dim and the Sky's Turned Black" by Jóhann Jóhannsson, the trailer presents a string of surreal images sans dialogue and, rather boldly, no title at the end, only an abbreviated web address. All we know is aliens are catastrophizing L.A. like it's their job, and some brave Marines led by Eckhart are trying their damndest to hold back the invasion in real time.
The handheld pseudo-documentary style is reminiscent of "District 9," and like that Best Picture nominee "Battle: Los Angeles" is directed by a South African, Jonathan Liebesman. If it reminds you at all of this week's L.A. invasion movie "Skyline" you're not alone: Sony has threatened legal action over the Brothers Strause not informing them of their plans to make "Skyline" before they also took the gig as lead effects artists on "Battle."
"Battle: Los Angeles" will destroy your local cinema with a big laser on March 11th, 2011.
