We'll get a glimpse at a brave new future world in just a little under two years.
Sony Pictures has set a release date for Neil Blomkamp's highly anticipated second feature, "Elysium." According to Heat Vision, the high-profile sci-fi film will be released just in time for spring break on March 8, 2013.
Details on the plot of "Elysium" are being kept closely under wraps, but we do know that it involves a future world with a very strict social class structure in which Matt Damon plays an ex-convict. The cast also includes Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura (who's just recently been cast as the villain) and Blomkamp's "District 9" pal, Sharlto Copley.
Blomkamp's "District 9," released in August 2009 (has it been that long already?), blew us through the back wall of the theater, and we've been waiting for his next project with baited breath ever since. Sony probably handed him a blank check after the success of "D9," so expect "Elysium" to be something pretty big and impressive.
Sigh... March 2013 seems so far away. Damn it, why can't the future be now?
