Memorial Day Weekend gets all the big press — you know, the parades, the flags, the cookouts and family get-togethers — but this year you'll want to mark the following weekend down in your calendar. MTV has just announced that the 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be taking place on June 3 at 9 pm ET/PT.
With a look back at fans' favorite movies from the past year and a first glance at upcoming blockbusters, this is one party you won't want to miss.
Not that you probably need us to tell you that. After all, last year, over 4.5 million viewers tuned in to check out host Jason Sudeikis' laff factory, the swoon-worthy boys of "Twilight" sharing an intimate moment and Reese Witherspoon providing a speech for the ages with an inspiring girl power speech that instantly went viral.
So what memorable moments from this year's show will people be talking about for the rest of the decade? MTV president Stephen Friedman isn't revealing all his secrets just yet, but he's confident that the show's new producer, veteran "MTV Music Awards" showrunner Jesse Ignjatovic, will have more than a few tricks up his sleeve.
"Just as Jesse has done with our 'Video Music Awards,' we know he'll infuse this year’s 'Movie Awards' with creative, musical and cinematic elements that fully tap into the sense of awe our audience experiences in a movie theater," Friedman said in a press release. "In his inspired hands, this year's show will be re-imagined to deliver a telecast that reflects our audiences' favorite films, music and stars."
So start getting ready. Because Sunday, June 3rd at 9 p.m., the coolest national holiday of the year arrives — and the celebration won't be the same without you.
