Mischa Barton isn't afraid of the "Dark."
The former "O.C." star is set to get existentially romantic as she's signed on for the lead role in "I Will Follow You Into the Dark," according to Variety.
Barton will be playing a young woman (the "I" in the title, we're assuming) who's drawn out of a deep depression over the death of both her parents by an unexpected romance; when her new lover goes missing, she sets out to find him -- a journey that may take her beyond the "living" world. Leah Pipes ("Sorority Row"), Ryan Eggold ("90210") and Jaz Martin are also attached to star.
Hmm ... we hate to say it, but this kind of reminds us of Lindsay Lohan's brilliant train wreck of a movie, "I Know Who Killed Me," especially since it has another somewhat troubled young starlet in the lead role. Well, if the comparison ends up sticking, "I Will Follow You Into the Dark" (which is undoubtedly named after the Death Cab For Cutie song) will at least end up being entertaining (for all the wrong reasons).
Mischa Barton (who got her start as the creepy ghost girl in "The Sixth Sense," in case you've forgotten) was last seen in "You and I," a sort of contemporary updating of "Bright Lights, Big City" with a lesbian romance (and a murder subplot). She has two projects currently in post-production, "The Sibling" and "The Adventures of Ben Banks," and is currently filming "Apartment 1303 3D."
"I Will Follow You Into the Dark" (which shouldn't be confused with "Into the Darkness," another film Barton is attached to) will commence with production this spring and will see the light sometime in 2013.
