Just this year actor/handsome fella Michael Fassbender has starred in "Jane Eyre," "X-Men: First Class," "A Dangerous Method," and "Shame," so he's already basically proven he's an acting machine. Now he may just cement that.

With shooting scheduled to ramp up at the beginning of next year, director José Padilha ("Elite Squad" 1 and 2) has told Brazillian TV channel Globo 1 that he wants none other than Mr. Fassbender to be his Alex Murphy in the remake of "Robocop."

Through the magic of choppy Portuguese translation, Bleeding Cool has gotten some semblance of what Padilha said on the show, which is very open for a filmmaker in such early stages on a major project:

"I can’t talk yet, it’s too early to speak, but there are some actors I like. I really like the Fassbender, I’d like to talk to him — I’ll talk to him. There’s a possibility… and there’s a lot of other great actors that would play Robocop. But that’s the idea, to film around January, February, March."

There you have it. Now it's a really good possibility The Last Fassbender will turn the cyborg-tastic project down, especially after already doing the android two-step for Ridley Scott's "Prometheus."

Is Fassbender a good choice to fill Peter Weller's shoes? Fo sho. He is calm, collected, German (actually that's Klaus from "Life Aquatic," but you get the point) and ready to conquer marquee stardom in a big way. Becoming a kill-crazy Spartan for "300" or donning Magneto's big funny helmet and cape was a good start, but if he's gonna do this whole movie star-thing for serious he's gonna need to bring out the big guns. If he's Robocop, that big gun will be holstered inside his leg.
