Michael B. Jordan Might Torch it Up for 'Fantastic Four'

Hollywood's got a pretty checkered history when it comes to whitewashing minority movie roles, so this is definitely fair play.

For his upcoming reboot of "The Fantastic Four," director Josh Trank reportedly has his sights lasered in on his own "Chronicle" alum Michael B. Jordan for the role of Johnny "Human Torch" Storm, melanin deficiency issues in the cartoon version be darned.

Audiences might recall that the 2005 version and its sole sequel ("Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer") featured "Captain America" himself Chris Evans in the role, but for his movie, Trank's ready to go another way with it.

The director is said to be hoping for a super reunion with Jordan, according to The Wrap's inside sources, and if the young "Wire" and "Friday Night Lights" stud jives well with the other actors in contention for fellow roles for the hopeful franchise restarter, then he's got a good chance of nabbing the covetous role.

Twentieth Century Fox declined to comment on any of this, of course, but Michael B. Jordan is said to have had several meetings with the studio in recent days.

Of course, there are also some other interesting side issues to consider here — like how this will affect the selection of a Sue Storm, the character's sister in the comics and prior version — but whatevs, Jordan's a great choice if you ask us. "The Fantastic Four" is scheduled for a March 6, 2015 release date, with shooting expected to pick up sometime in the fall.
