Earth is about to be completely destroyed and you know what? It sucks.
That's the takeaway from the new trailer for "Melancholia" from professional provocateur Lars von Trier. Set to debut at next month's Cannes Film Festival, "Melancholia" tells the story of a group of extremely mopey folks gathered for a wedding which is interrupted by the fact that a giant red planet named Melancholia suddenly appears in the night sky, hurtling towards Earth with certain destruction on its big evil planet mind.
Of course, what's bad news for the folks in the film is good news for the rest of us, as "Melancholia" features an all-star cast of world class actors getting their angst on, including Kristen Dunst and Alexander Skarsgard as the newlyweds and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling and John Hurt as members of the wedding party.
And if you have to get blowed up by a rampaging planet, there are worse ways to go than by being featured in a lushly photographed film by one of the world's most controversial directors, right?
